#Rewind #40yearsLegacy Exactly 40 years ago, on this day, in 1978 Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler stood on the top of the Everest without any aritificial oxygen support. “Basically, I just wanted to make an example then, to give it a try. I did not know how far I would come.” said Messner to Stefan Nestler. For Peter Habeler, it was in his own words “a very emotional moment” when they finally stood on the roof of the world. On the traffic jam at Hillary step near Everest summit in the present time situation Messner says, “At my age I don’t want to die in the mountains, after working for 65 years to do everything I can to not die there. To head up Everest with two oxygen bottles and two Sherpas, one at the front and one at the back, is not my idea of fun.” Credits: Stefan Nestler #getsetclimb #real_mountaineering #reinhold #messner #peter_habeler #everest #no_oxygen #never_give_up #8000ers #eight_thousanders #sherpa #hillary_step #legacy #mountains #himalayas #nepal
